

I attended my first funeral at the age of 16, when I played the organ for my grandmother’s
service. After the ceremony I spoke briefly to the Funeral Director, and expressed
an interest in his profession. He invited me to visit him, and within a week I was
working for him on a part-
I progressed through working with various companies in order to gain experience in all aspects of the work, taking an early interest in office procedures and arranging funerals.
I studied for the industry professional qualification in 1998-
I also spent some time away from the funeral trade to study for a music degree. In
2002 I took a career break and travelled around the world for a year, a highly positive

The lure of the funeral profession eventually pulled me back in that direction, and most recently I worked as manager for an independent funeral company.
